About Michael
Dr. Michael Luan, D.C., M.Om., BS is a Body Communications Coach, Consultant and Speaker. He is a Doctor of a Chiropractic and holds a Master's degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, as well a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from USC. With over 30 years of experience in various forms of martial arts, Dr. Luan has dedicated his life to helping individuals with sports training, peak performance, biomechanics, body rolling, mind-body techniques, rehabilitation, body patterning, yoga and teacher training. Much of Michael's life has focused on integrating his education and experience to create a personalized healing process for you.

About Maria
Maria Aihara-Sasaki, MS, BS, PES, RYT-200, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology and a Master’s degree in Entomology. For over 26 years, she served as the chief researcher in scientific projects at the University of Hawaii. Her education encompasses biological sciences and forensic science, complemented by a solid foundation in human anatomy, physiology, and movement. Maria possesses a deep understanding of gait, locomotion, and conformation, developed through training dogs, horses, and working with humans. Additionally, she has a strong background in yoga, running, weightlifting, hiking, meditation, CoreAlign, and personal development, which enhances her work with clients. Maria combines her extensive background to provide insights that can transform and evolve your life.

How much do sessions cost?Initial consultation, discovery and bodywork (1.5 hours) are $500. Follow-up sessions (1 hour) are $200.

What can I expect working with Dr. Michael Luan, D.C.?Michael seeks to uncover the root cause of the pain or the issues you are experiencing by examining both the physical and emotional aspects of your mechanism of injury. If the situation dictates, you may also work with Maria Aihara-Sasaki.

What can I expect on the first visit?The first visit will involve gathering information, discovering details, and understanding the biomechanics of your injury. If time permits, he will begin the process of working on you. Eventually, there will be a deeper exploration of your ”WHY” — the fundamental motivation behind your health and life.

What is your WHY?Your 'WHY' is the ultimate motivation for everything you do. It dictates how you engage and what you aim to achieve throughout your life. It will also shape your healing collaboration during your time with Michael. If you don’t know WHY you want to feel better or strive for peak performance, neither will Michael.

How long are appointments?The first appointment is about 90 minutes long. Follow up appointments are about 50-60 minutes.

What techniques does he use?Dr. Michael Luan, D.C. is well-versed and certified in Applied Kinesiology (AK), Sacro-Occipital Techniques (SOT), drop table therapy, flexion distraction, functional stretching, activity-specific training, and Eastern Medicine. He has also worked for many years alongside orthodontists to take a functional approach to mechanics of the body goes through during orthodontic treatment.

What is Dr. Michael Luan, D.C.’s educational background?Michael has a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering, a Master’s in Oriental Medicine, and a Doctor of Chiropractic. He also possesses a strong background in biomechanics and body communication. For 25 years, he has taught the biomechanics of movement to fitness professionals and yoga instructors, as well as group fitness, and has practiced martial arts for over 30 years.

How often will you need to be seen?This is highly dependent on your goals and your 'WHY.' Most academic quarters last 6 to 8 weeks, while semesters typically last 8 to 12 weeks. This time frame is known as the physiological response, which refers to how your body reacts to the positive stress of learning something new. Therefore, it is approximately one to two times a week for 6 to 12 weeks to achieve the positive changes you seek, depending on your motivation and the goals you set with Michael Luan.

Will there be homework?Yes, this is a partnership. There will definitely be homework to help us reach our goals together. The more diligent you are with your assignments, the better the results will be. Most of the time, the homework is simple but requires consistency.

How much are classes?$20 per class.

What kind of classes is this?This is a functional movement class that uses various props to identify fundamental weaknesses, helping to improve your overall health, body awareness, and confidence.

What should I bring to Bio-Functional classes?Please bring water, a towel if you need one, a yoga mat, a roller, and yoga blocks. If you don't have the equipment, you can borrow it from the class. Wear tighter fitting clothing that you feel comfortable moving in. Most importantly, bring an open heart to learn.

What should I expect?The class is equipment-intensive. So there are props that will be use to activate the body’s proper mechanics. There will be certain activities that may be difficult for you as you first start out. These exercises target fundamental weaknesses in the body with the goal of strengthen them. If anything is too challenging, please feel free to ask for a modification.

Can I drop in?Yes, you can. Ideally, the body responds to positive stress within 6 to 8 weeks, which is known as the physiological response. Therefore, it's best to plan for 8 consecutive weeks for optimal results.

Is this class difficult?This class identifies fundamental weaknesses. If you have a fundamental weakness in an area, you may feel that this is difficult. If it is too difficult, you can ask for modifications.
